The Game of Glass Ceilings

About the Project

This project explores the ideas of feminist epistemology through creative expression, bringing attention to how gendered experiences shape knowledge and participation in STEM. At its core, feminist epistemology questions the assumption that knowledge is neutral, highlighting how social power, representation, and lived experience influence whose voices are heard and whose contributions are recognized. Through this project, we aim to reflect on the subtle but persistent ways in which women’s perspectives have been marginalized within scientific spaces.

The work combines a set of short stories by Oviya and a poem by Akshank. The stories focus on everyday struggles faced by women pursuing science- from navigating unequal expectations in academia, to the pressure to conform to male-dominated norms, and the differing ways mental health challenges are perceived. Complementing these narratives, the poem reflects on the emotional journey of women moving through institutions shaped by long-standing gender biases. Together, these pieces aim to illuminate overlooked experiences, encourage reflection, and open conversations about creating more inclusive ways of knowing and practicing science.
